Instituto Metropolitano Estrella, A.C. is seeking teachers interested in serving in an international school in Mexico City for one to two years. IME is a small school originally designed to serve primarily the children of English-speaking missionaries who would be pursuing their college education in the States. Due to changes in missionary demographics, the school now includes a larger percentage of children of Mexican pastors, although instruction, especially in all the core subjects, is still in English.
IME is seeking teachers who are willing to come to Mexico on missionary support and work at the school. Both part-time and full-time teachers will be accepted, as long as the hours scheduled at IME are consistent. ESL training is not essential but is helpful.
Many mission agencies have their own estimates and policies on the cost of living expenses in different countries, but help can be provided in this area if needed. Occasionally, arrangements can be made for a teacher to board with a school family or a family known to a member of the school. This does not eliminate costs but may help to mitigate them.
If an individual wishes to come independently, a letter of recommendation from the pastor of his/her local congregation is needed, as well as a letter or recommendation from a former employer.
All teachers are expected to faithfully attend the church of their choice. Many find opportunities for service. Some also take advantage of being in a Spanish-speaking country to learn or improve their Spanish through private tutoring. Free classes can also be arranged at the school during the time of service.
While college graduates (with or without a teaching degree) are preferred, others, such as students taking a year “off” before completing studies, will be considered.
